The most meaningful trait of dogs must be their loyalty. A lot of stories in the past and the media have covered proofs of their loyalty to their owners. They can wait endlessly for their owners and would be ecstatic even after so many years. Having a pack is wired into the dogs’ genetics, and for companion dogs, their pack is their human family. And they would do anything for their pack. Just like these six dogs from    South Brazil.

A homeless man named Luiz suffered a stroke and was taken to the Santa Casa Hospital in Cianorte, Brazil. Despite the fact the Luiz was homeless, he still has a company. After living in the streets of Cianorte for 20 years, he found a home with the six dogs who refused to be without him.

In the past, several attempts were made to find a house for him, however, he preferred to be with the dogs in the street and turned down the offers. One volunteer from the NGO, Simone Zilane even created a kennel for the dogs but they jumped over the walls to go back to Luiz.

At the time that Luiz was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, the dogs were behind it, running after the vehicle. Just as the ambulance arrives at the hospital, the dogs arrived shortly, panting and exhausted after chasing the ambulance for miles. One of the hospital workers filmed the dogs as they desperately wait for their owner. The dogs are distraught as their owner disappears inside the hospital. They kept howling as they lay down at the emergency room entrance.

A non-governmental organization on animal welfare were contacted and was told about the dogs that must have panicked after what happened. The dogs were given food by the volunteers of Amigos de Patas Cianorte who posted the photos of the dogs on their Facebook page. They wrote: “That night he had a stroke, his friends of paws accompanied him, and they stayed… crying, from the outside. There they remain in vigil.”

Fortunately, Luiz’s condition became better the next morning, and he was discharged from the hospital and was taken to his brother’s care. Apparently, he had to use a different exit other than the one at the emergency room where the dogs are still waiting for him. He did not realize that the dogs were outside of the hospital, waiting for him.

The dogs refused to leave the location and the reunion did not occur until Zilane picked up Luiz from his brother’s house and take him to where the dogs are. Luiz and his pack are back on the streets again after they were vaccinated, neutered, and chipped.
